HID Lights and Traffic Safety
There are two kinds of traffic that generally come with a business: foot traffic and street traffic. Both can pose dangers to the public and to your business – when people get hurt on your property, you are responsible. With HID lights, you can increase your “traffic safety” tenfold:

This Victorian vintage lamppost fixture boasts modern efficiency and the clear top means uplighting for hanging baskets and event banners.
- A lamppost light on the corner will allow people to see in front of your business and be able to walk up and down the strip without fear of danger or being hurt.
- Street lighting is also most helpful to cars that are looking for your store – and the curb. There have been accidents involving cars and store fronts; it is definitely a store owner’s nightmare.
Installing a street light is a fantastic solution to these kinds of problems but what kind? There is one kind of lamp that stands out among the rest; you may have seen one or even have been considering one for the outside of your store. HID, or High Intensity Discharge lights are the way to go in outdoor lamppost light choices.
HID lights are lights that are powered chemically. There are several kinds, but the two most used are metal-halide and sodium vapor lights. Heat is produced inside an arc tube and light is produced when the chemicals ignite. These kinds of lights are absolutely invaluable to traffic safety.
There are plenty of stylish options that will keep your store traffic nice and safe.
It might not sound that good looking – chemicals igniting and getting hot doesn’t sounds like something that would appeal to many customers. However there are plenty of great options for a business owner looking for something nice to plant in front of their store.
A double arm lamppost light is a great choice for a posh storefront in need of traffic safety. The 10′ post is high enough to light a broad area and the double arm light fixture has nice flared shades and white lenses for a warm glow instead of a harsh over-bright light. As a standard the bulbs are incandescent, but an upgrade to HID is available.

This particular HID street light is 26 feet tall, allowing traffic to pass safely underneath on city streets and parking lots.
If that style doesn’t appeal to you, perhaps you’d like an old fashioned vintage design lamppost. This lamp has a great feel for a historical area or even a when just a touch of class is needed. The top is clear and the aluminum pole has a powder coat finish in your choice of black or bronze, and you can also choose high pressure sodium vapor or metal halide as your choice of lamp.
Vintage is great – however sometimes a more modern look is appropriate. The high output post light is a simple design; it isn’t too modern and it isn’t too vintage. The fixture is narrow at the bottom and square at the top with a clear polycarbonate lens and comes with the same lamp options as the others.
See? Traffic Safety doesn’t have to be hard, or ugly!
All of these types of street lighting feature 120v lamps and come with mounting hardware included. Not only are they easy to install, but they will keep your end of the sidewalk well lit for foot traffic safety and car traffic safety.
